　　本片改编自菲利普·普尔曼(Philip Pullman)的最畅销小说《黑暗物质》(His Dark Materials)三部曲之一，由克里斯·维兹(ChrisWeitz)执导。《黑暗物质》三部曲由《黄金罗盘》、《精工小刀》(The Subtle Knife)和《琥珀望远镜》(The Amber Spyglass)构成。

《黑暗物质》是由一系列很长的故事组成的，整个故事发生在一个和我们的地球很相似的世界里，讲的是一对名叫莉拉和威尔的少年的旅行和冒险经历，不仅围绕孩子，还涉及清白、原罪以及融合了魔幻、科学等元素。第一部《黄金罗盘》中莉拉为了拯救她最好的朋友罗杰而前往危险重重的极北之地，在那里她还将尽全力帮助其他被诱拐的孩子逃离成为邪恶科学家试验品的厄运。第二部《精工小刀》讲的是莉拉遇到了一个从地球出逃的男孩威尔，在两人成为密友后却发现了一个致命的秘密。在第三部《琥珀望远镜》里，莉拉和威尔穿梭于各个不同的空间，故事的结局是两人携手开始了对一个最不可知秘密的探索之旅。

The Golden Compass Movie Synopsis

Based on author Philip Pullman's bestselling and award-winning novel, The Golden Compass tells the first story in Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. The Golden Compass is an exciting fantasy adventure, set in an alternative world where people's souls manifest themselves as animals, talking bears fight wars, and Gyptians and witches co-exist. At the center of the story is Lyra (played by newcomer Dakota Blue Richards), a 12-year-old girl who starts out trying to rescue a friend who's been kidnapped by a mysterious organization known as the Gobblers - and winds up on an epic quest to save not only her world, but ours as well.

In a parallel world where people each have a personal, the manifestation of their soul in animal form, young Lyra Belacqua is a precocious orphan growing up at Oxford University. The rambunctious girl enjoys climbing on the roof with Roger the kitchen boy, spitting plum stones on passersby, stealing apples from the market and disrupting tutorials by making animal sounds.

But her carefree existence changes when she and her prevent an assassination attempt against her uncle, the powerful Lord Asriel, then overhear a secret discussion about a mysterious entity known as Dust. She s then quickly swept up in a dangerous game involving disappearing children, a beautiful woman with a golden monkey demon, a trip to the far north, and a set of allies ranging from witches to an armor-clad polar bear.
